Autorenporträt
Irene Maddox has been associated with music in almost every way possible--she has sung, taught music in public schools, been a church accompanist, played professionally in orchestras and Broadway shows; she has performed as a soloist in the United States and Europe in front of symphony orchestras, as part of chamber groups, and as part of a flute-guitar duo. She teaches flute in her Charlotte, North Carolina studio as well as on the staff of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Queens College. She performs with organist Mark Andersen as the Andersen-Maddox Duo, who record exclusively for International Artists (United States) and Philips (Europe). A native of Texas and a graduate of North Texas State University, where she received both her BA and MME degrees, Mrs. Maddox has studied in Europe with internationally acclaimed flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal. She is founder of the Charlotte Flute Association and an officer of the National Flue Association. Two daughters, Robirene and Melisande, and husband Robert Maddox, a musician/conductor, make up her family. Equally at ease singing songs such as those in this book or performing as a soloist before 90,000 people, Mrs. Maddox radiates enthusiasm for music. Rosalyn Cobb works with both children and adults in many different aspects of music. She has concentrated her efforts in Orff-Music and has developed many programs in this area for children, senior citizens, and handicapped persons. She currently teaches at the Community School of the Arts in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ms. Cobb completed her studies in organ and piano at Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Cleveland, Ohio. She has appeared as a piano soloist with The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and has toured extensively as accompanist of The Charlotte Choirboys. Teaching summer classes for gifted children in musical theater, directing church choirs, and maintaining a large private studio of piano students have enabled Rosalyn to share with others her enthusiasm for music. Some of her fondest childhood memories are of singing and playing the campfire songs in this book during summer vacations at various camps in the Carolinas.
