Steve Newvine is a columnist who writes Our Community Story on MercedCountyEvents.com . He has authored twelve books over the past decade plus. This is his third book about his experiences in California. His first was titled 9 From 99 and shared his experiences at nine points of interest along the renown north/south Highway 99 that bisects the state. In 2017, he penned California Back Roads, a book that shared his encounters throughout the state over a period of twelve years. Steve wrote two books about his life growing up in a small village in upstate New York. The first was called Growing Up, Upstate and told the story of his family and friends who shaped him as an individual. The sequel, Grown Up, Going Home recapped some stories about friends and associates who he had maintained contact with over the years. A chapter of Grown Up, Going Home provided the foundation for an appreciation essay Steve wrote about his radio station mentor George Capron who was a mainstay on Boonville (NY) station WBRV for over fifty years. The essay was published at the time of Mr. Capron's death in 2019. Steve has authored over a dozen opinion essays that have been published in a number of newspapers in New York State and California. These newspapers include: The Fresno Bee, Modesto Bee, Merced Sun Star, Merced County Times, Binghamton Sun Bulletin, Boonville Herald, and Watertown Daily Times.
