Candida as well as other microorganisms live in equilibrium as part of the normal vaginal flora, however due to alterations in the vaginal tract the number of Candida can increase, thus producing Candidiasis. Candidiasis is a very common infection caused by yeasts belonging to the genus Candida, among the most common etiological agents is C. albicans followed by other species such as C. glabrata, C. Krusei, C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis: the frequency with which these species are isolated from a vaginal exudate have promoted the interest for many people to be interested in the specific identification of these.
