Canton honors a 200-year-old town nestled snuggly between the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack foothills. With historical photographs, it illustrates Canton's glorious past, which began with New York State's purchase of the northern regions from the Iroquois, the establishment of the 10 original townships, and the incorporation of the town of Canton in 1805. The history includes notable residents, such as artist Frederic Remington, boatbuilder J. Henry Rushton, and state governor Silas Wright, and lesser-known personalities, such as Eddie Perry and Jimmy Murray.

Autorenporträt
For the town's bicentennial, the authors have compiled this collection of images from the Canton historian's office. Having lived in the North Country for 30 years, Linda A. Casserly has served the village and town of Canton as historian since 1994 and has written a weekly historical column for the local newspaper for more than a decade. Julie Sherman Grayson, a native of Canton and graduate of St. Lawrence University, owns and operates a local business and specializes in electronic publishing services. Educator Judith C. Liscum, whose family goes back four generations in Canton, is a former Canton Central School teacher and coauthor with her students of a book on Canton and an adjunct instructor at St. Lawrence University. Canton is a culmination of the three authors' admiration, respect, and love for the community they call home.
