In this adaptation of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," the narrative follows the ambitious warlord Cao Cao as he attempts to assassinate the tyrannical Dong Zhuo. However, his plan fails, forcing him to flee the capital. In Zhongmu County, he is captured by the local magistrate, Chen Gong. Recognizing Cao Cao's loyalty and sense of justice, Chen Gong is moved and chooses to release him, resigning from his post to escape with him. As they journey together, they reach Chenggao, where an overly suspicious Cao Cao misinterprets a situation and tragically kills the entire family of the kind-hearted Lü Boshe. This ruthless act reveals Cao Cao's darker nature, leading Chen Gong to abandon him and continue on his own. This pivotal moment highlights the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the complexities of human nature within the turbulent context of the Three Kingdoms era. This volume is richly illustrated, featuring 70 illustrations by Xu Zhengping, and provides an engaging glimpse into one of China's most celebrated historical narratives, originally penned by Luo Guanzhong.
