An actress for over 60 years, Eve Pearce has played leading parts with the RSC all over the world and has also appeared at The National and the Royal Court. She has made countless appearances on television from 'Z-Cars' to 'Torchwood' and played Gilbert's mother in Mike Leigh's 'Topsy Turvy'. Born in Aberdeen, she spent her early childhood in Nice. She came to London at the age of 12 and regards herself as a Scottish Londoner. She began writing poetry in Katherine Gallagher's workshop at the age of 70 and in 2007 John Rety published her pamphlet 'Woman in Winter' (Hearing Eye). These poems mostly in free verse, are full of voice and speak loud from the page. They are intensely evocative, vivid, sharply sensuous and full of things . . . not just the things of long-ago dreich, dear, fundamental Aberdeen, nor the London of either 1941 Selfridge-sophistication or of a rainy night now . . . but here is the thing: the living here-and-now meaning of such memories and moments.
