This book gives an overview of cardiovascular diseases(CVD)epidemiology, burdens, risk factors and prevention in Saudi Arabia and globally. The book consists of three sections. The first is an overview of the global burden of CVD, including CVD's definition, epidemiology, costs and burdens, and risk factors. The second section is about the Saudi context; it provides an overview of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi health care system, then details the epidemiology and risk factors for CVD in Saudi Arabia. The third section is about the secondary prevention of CVD: it includes a definition of CVD primary and secondary prevention programmes; the eligibility for, components of, and benefits from the secondary prevention of CVD; an overview of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for CVD secondary prevention; and the challenges to the secondary prevention of CVD. It also describes the nurse's role in secondary prevention of CVD and provides an example of secondary prevention of CVD led by nurses in Saudi Arabia.
