The Caro Kann is one of the most popular defences against White's king pawn. However, divergent opinions of great chess players of different eras can be found in the first moves of some of its fundamental variations. The Caro-Kann Defence has been, for decades, one of the weapons that has played a quite significant role in several world championship matches, with not inconsiderable results, especially considering the level of the contenders.But just as with many defences and openings, this does not prevent us from finding in the most respectable literature conflicting views on some of its most studied variations. In the present work the author focuses his attention on presenting the amateurs with a selection of criteria which many years later are still fully valid.
