Mezgebu Heyi es consultor de salud pública. Ha trabajado para la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) en la Iniciativa de Erradicación de la Poliomielitis (PEI), el PAI y la vigilancia de enfermedades en Etiopía, Yemen y Sudán del Sur durante más de 10 años. Se doctoró en salud pública por la Universidad Central de Nicaragua en colaboración con la Universidad Americana de Texila.
