The stakes and challenges of water resources management in the country are very high and are posed in terms of: (i) satisfying the basic needs of the populations from the point of view of food security including drinking water and sanitation, (ii) economic related to the development of water resources through the creation of wealth, (iii) protection of existing ecosystems and/or preservation of the living environment and (iv) quite simply land use planning, without forgetting international cooperation in the area of water. The World Bank, through its WSP-Africa program, is working to strengthen water supply policies for the poor in urban areas.This report is therefore part of a case study conducted by the consultant between September 1 and October 10, 2009. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Burkina Faso Water Company in terms of water supply and sanitation in informal settlements. This analysis aims especially to see how this water and sanitation service can be institutionalized so that it is legally included in the prerogatives of the water company.
