We conducted a retrospective, longitudinal, descriptive, and analytical study of 483 eyes of 426 adults operated on for EEC with IOL implantation from March 6, 2012, to March 5, 2013, and revealed a sex ratio of 1.5 in favor of males and a mean age of 64.5 ±11.9 years. In pre-op, we noted fog vision (67.1%) associated with photophobia (39.6%) as complaints, blindness (89.6%), diabetes (26.9%) and glaucoma (15.1%) as ATCD; total cataract (56.7%) and senile cause (72.3%). The classic surgical technique was performed in 89% of cases with a +21D power lens (56.1%) and in CP (97.7%) at the OG (52%) and unilaterally (73.9%). In post-op, we noted 43.9% attendance at the 3rd month with 51.4% good corrected vision against 3.3% poor results due to sequelae (71.4%), early complications of striated keratitis (21.6%) and late complications of secondary cataract (81.1%). Attendance at month 3 was influenced by preoperative ocular comorbidity and blindness. Age 80 years was a risk factor for poor visual outcome. The study shows that visual outcomes were below WHO standards.
