The Caucasian region is no doubt one of the most beautiful places in the world. However, most of this region was essentially closed to foreigners for more than 70 years that followed the Russian revolution of 1917. Consequently, very few Caucasian plants entered world horticulture during this period. Today, three independent nations Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia are starting to open up to international research. Now it is possible for botanists and amateurs from all over the world to arrange field trip and to observe wonderful Caucasian plants in nature. The book tries to help visitors to learn what plants deserve special attention, what plants are new to horticulture.The Caucasus has a very old history and culture of hospitable population, the beauty and biodiversity of the spectacular mountain environment.
