Selecting helical pipes of appropriate angle for the conveyance of a particular fluid can be daunting, and detecting problems as a result of sand erosion in helical pipes can be problematic and time-consuming. This text x-rays the impact of sand erosion in 0, 30, 45 and 60-degree helical pipes for three different fluids (water, ammonia and gasoil) flowing through a helical pipe from bottom-up at a certain velocity magnitude by using ANSYS discrete phase model (DPM). It also examines the rate at which velocity of each fluid fluctuations (turbulent dissipation) varies in all four pipe helical angles. It shows simulations of sand particle alongside each of the three fluids as disperse and continuous phase respectively for each angle of pipe helical, to show fluid behavior and how erosion impact vary for helical pipes of various angle.
