We examined the tether storage method and extension method that are useful for multi-directional deployment of CFRP space tethers for space deployment structure. Tether stretching experiments were performed in a simulated weightless environment using CFRP tethers of different cross-sectional properties. It has become clear that stable attitude can be developed stably by devising the storage method. We are also developing an automatic extension device by sending commands.

Our major are space structural mechanics, safety design engineering and mechanics of composite materials. Research of the tethered satellites and the space elevators are started in 2008. We are performing orbital elevator demonstrations using tethered satellites launched in low orbit by the JAXA rocket launched in September 2018.
