Inherited from the French colonization, the Chadian educational system has been subject to several constraints since the beginning of independence: unsuitable school programs, a system that does not meet the requirements and realities of the country's economic life, a strong demand for schooling that has not been met due to the demographic growth, and finally, the inadequacy of the pedagogical framework. The political turmoil that the country has experienced for long periods of time has led communities to take charge of the schooling of their children. Despite the increased attention paid to access to and improvement of basic education by politicians, i.e., making education "the priority of priorities," the educational reality in Chad has been particularly bleak for over three decades. For most observers of the Chadian education system, it is inconsistent or inadequate. It is precisely these shortcomings and inadequacies of the traditional school system that have led to our growing interest in this work.
