The children of the Johnston family had never known a proper happy family life at home, though they did find it when they went to visit their granny and grandad. Their lives were full of chores, few meals, and looking after each other, especially their younger brother Johnny. However, one dark night in November, an upset hits them like a bomb exploding, and their lives change, never to be the same again.

Autorenporträt
Carol was born in Canada where her mother had followed her new soldier husband after the second world war. After a couple of years in the wilderness when she found she was pregnant she decided to return to Scotland and the soldier promised he would follow as soon as he could. He didn't follow, and he never wrote once. But back in Forfar with her granny and grandad she felt loved and saw her grandad as a dad. He took her on walks around Forfar, let her help in his garden, and telling her stories. Lots of them.
