The purpose of the study was to find out the challenges heads of public senior high schools (SHS) faced in the financial administration of the schools in the Jirapa District. The population of the study was 35 in number. There was no need for sampling because the number was few. Therefore, the census technique was adopted. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Data were gathered using a questionnaire and analysed using the Statistical Product for Service Solutions (SPSS) software. The findings of the study revealed that whilst all the schools accountants had pursued different courses in financial administration before their appointments, all the heads never pursued any course on financial administration before their appointment. Also, all the heads of schools were not able to generate adequate funds to finance their schools. They depended heavily on government grants and the GETfund to run their schools. The study also revealed that, the heads could not effectively supervise the work of the accountants and the accounting staff because of lack of knowledge and relevant training in financial administration.
