Just when they begin to overcome their emotional barriers, Stefan has the opportunity to see the world and leaves to work on projects in Africa and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Ziggy continues his long rivalry with Stefan and contributes to the eventual breakup of their already fragile relationship. After a dangerous two-month stint in Afghanistan, Stefan is stunned when he returns home and discovers that Alice and Daniel have become an item. Stefan's efforts to distance himself from Alice fail and after she returns to America, his long search for her begins-transforming their lives into an unexplored road without a map to guide them.

Janus Ivering was born in Warsaw and has lived in Scandinavia, Germany, the United States, and Austria, where he was awarded a doctorate degree in technical sciences. Now retired from teaching at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, he lives in Sydney with his wife and two adult sons.
