Present book is an outcome of a project sponsored by Himachal Pradesh State Land Use Board. Main objective of the present book was to study the changing land use and cropping pattern of the tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh in general and Pangi valley in particular. To meet out the desired objectives of the present study authors have made an attempt to analyze the secondary data collected from the various departments concerned and then to check the performance of government policies at ground level, a field survey was conducted with the help of field investigators. In the present study it has found that, there is a tremendous pressure on the limited available land because of growing developmental activities as center and state governments are making the serious effort for the tribal development. Further, it has also noticed in the studied area, people are shifting their cropping pattern to horticulture and cash crops from the traditional crops with growing facilities. Therefore, need of the hour is to adopt an alternate model of development where inclusive growth must be the nucleous of the planning by which least harm is done to the fragile ecology and environment.
