Mattees van Dijk werd geboren op 28 oktober 1953 in Utrecht en verhuisde met zijn ouders op kleuterleeftijd naar het Westland waar zijn vader een tandartspraktijk begon. Hij groeide in dit tuinbouwgebied op en na zijn middelbare school ging hij medicijnen studeren in Rotterdam. In 1981 studeerde hij af en vestigde zich na zijn specialisatie tot huisarts in 1983 in Maassluis. In 2002 verruilde hij zijn praktijk in Maassluis voor een praktijk in Hoek van Holland waar hij pensioneerde als huisarts. De auteur was als kind al gefascineerd door ruimtevaart en kosmologie. Als huisarts kwam daar de fascinatie voor bewustzijnswetenschappen bij. Existentiële vragen zijn immers aan de orde van de dag in het beroep van arts. Door het schrijven van opiniestukken en wetenschappelijke artikelen werd langzaam de schrijver in hem wakker. In 2012 schreef hij zijn eerste boek "Chaos, orde en bewustzijn". Een filosofisch boek dat een pleidooi houdt voor het pantheïsme als een overbrugging tussen wetenschap en spiritualiteit.
