Suame Magazene is a small industrial area located in the Ashanti Region in Kumasi, Ghana. These artisans run small scale foundries within the clustered area which has a huge amount of waste sand deposits annually. Characterisation of this waste foundry sand from some selected foundries with the clustered is to give information to the citizens within the country on wastes produced from these small scale foundries. Techniques used during the characterisation processes are to help in assessing and acquiring information on the harmful materials from waste sands discarded from these foundries and how it affects our environment.

Mr Akeem Raji is a University teaching assistant in the Department of Materials Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Materials Engineering from KNUST and has one year of research and teaching experience at KNUST. One of his research focus is in materials processing.
