After the challenges of fifth grade, Charlie is excited for summer to be here. Summer means floating down the creek, playing football and shooting pool, and hanging out with Harold, Rudy, and Sarah. But best of all, summer means playing shortstop for the highly-talented Bruins softball team. But as the summer unfolds, nothing goes according to plan, at least not Charlie's plan, as she learns that being eleven brings new, and often unwanted, responsibilities. Then when someone starts leaving coded messages at Charlie's games, her summer takes another twist, and the four friends realize that finding the sender of the messages may be fun, but it could also have far-reaching consequences. Charlie's Summer Season reminds Charlie, and the reader, that growing up is more than just getting bigger and moving on to the next grade, and that being a Christian is more than just learning Bible verses and going to Sunday School. Sometimes ... a lot of times ... both require sacrifice.
