There are forces trying to stop Johnny from within the police department and from without, and two additional murders potentially connected to the first one occur. We meet Johnny's eclectic group of friends, learn their histories, and experience their interactions with him and each other as well as their romantic involvements. As Johnny and Ashford try to solve the murders, we find out about the unscrupulous and illegal conduct of police, businessmen, trial lawyers, and judges. Walter George Alton is a well-known civil trial attorney, former actor (10, Heavenly Bodies, and The Pumaman), former model, and a published writer who wrote Malpractice, A Trial Lawyer's Advice for Physicians with Little, Brown. He was born in New York City, and spent most of his life there, but now lives on a non-working farm in upstate New York. He attended Yale College, was a member of the swim team, and was captain of the water polo team. His law degree is from Columbia University School of Law. He was also in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. In addition to skiing and hiking, he swims for exercise and used to box for physical fitness.
