Autorenporträt
Born in Yugoslavia, Miroslava Perge immigrated to the U.S. in 1974, at the age of 41, with her husband Ivan and three children. They left Yugoslavia because they could see the political and financial conditions changing. Without knowing one word of English, she built a new life with her family in a new country. Now, at 85 years old, Miroslava has lived half of her life in Yugoslavia and half of it in America. Chef Baba has been cooking for seventy-five years and has not slowed down. Among family and friends, Chef Baba has always been known for her amazing cooking, particularly her Gibanica, chicken noodle soup, super-thin noodles, Lepinjice, Krempita, Listi¿i, and ... well, actually the list goes on and on. Miroslava learned to cook from her mother, who learned to cook from her mother and so on. She prepared those traditional Eastern European recipes so well that nobody else in the family wanted to cook. Why should they when Chef Baba could cook anything? After 15 years of Chef Baba telling her son Damir that she would not live forever-that's what Serbian Babas (grandmas) do-he finally got the message. Damir decided to shoot a video of Baba making his favorite recipe Gibanica. They had so much fun they started the ChefBaba Cooking Show on YouTube. After numerous requests from Chef Baba's fans that she writes a cookbook, Damir has finally gotten off his smartphone to do something about it. Damir has taken on the responsibility of cataloguing and recording all Chef Baba's recipes. Chef Baba has more than 600 recipes from the Old Country, so the sharing of her wonderful secret recipes continues.
