Nanotechnology is a word that stirs up enthusiasm and fear since it is expected, for the good and for the bad, to have a strong influence on the future of mankind. In fact, nanotechnology has apparently different meanings in different fields of science, for example, in physics and chemistry. Nanotechnology is a word that stirs up enthusiasm and fear since it is expected, for the good and for the bad, to have a strong influence on the future of mankind. In fact, nanotechnology has apparently different meanings in different fields of science, for example, in physics and chemistry. Perhaps surprisingly, the term nanoscience is much less commonly used, but it is all the same rather poorly defined. Chemistry is tremendously important to nanotechnology, but until now that importance is rather negative in the sense that chemical reality often thwarts the nanotechnologist s desire. Properties of matter at Nano-scale may not be as predictable as those observed at larger scales. Important changes in behaviour are caused not only by continuous improvements of characteristics, but also by the emergence of totally new phenomena such as quantum confinement. The book explains in easy language the scope for its future developments, and various applications. Everybody is looking to the positive side of the nanotechnology. Possibly there is a negative side also for this nanotechnology. The book is useful for nanotechnology introduction with self-explanatory figures.
