We live in a century dominated by a scientific and technological culture. This is the reality we face in our daily lives and it requires us to be citizens who are prepared to live with this type of society. This brings us to the following question: Are people prepared to decode this science that is changing at a frightening rate? The frequent observations of people buying products influenced by advertisements found on television, newspapers and magazines, and the way in which they appropriated these readings, encouraged me to problematize this issue. In this context of implications, I believe it is of the utmost importance to investigate the readings of packaging as a way of reading, writing and understanding the world. And this context includes the teaching of chemistry, which has much to contribute to the formation of citizenship. The main objectives of this work are: to analyze some packaging/labels with the intention of problematizing this issue, relating it to chemistry teaching and proposing an activity that can make it possible for students to read packaging/labels.
