Author-filmmaker John R. Paulson became especially interested in the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in 2010 while creating the Maryland Public Television documentary The Chesapeake Bay Bridge: Spanning the Bay. Together with his daughter, Erin E. Paulson, he paints a nostalgic portrait of the heyday of the automobile ferries before there was a bridge and recounts the story of how the bridge was built: the engineers who designed it, the workers who braved the heights to build it, and the transformative effect it has had on the nation's vital Mid-Atlantic region.
