The low intellectual level of most rural youth in developing countries is a central problem analysed by Etienne MAKASHI PONGO on the hierarchy of causes of this problem. The immediate, underlying and structural causes are highlighted here. This analysis suggested two major implications: the search for the causes of the problem and the identification of its consequences. Overall, it is structural causes, those related to mental, cultural, socio-economic, political, environmental and institutional structures that would explain the trend towards the exploitation of youth through child labour. The consequences of this phenomenon are more numerous, but we have focused our attention on the intellectual formation that knows as a pitfall, child labor considered as a normal situation in this region. These consequences are therefore manifestations of various kinds, produced by the problem that arises.
