Child labour as a social problem has become an important component of welfare consciousness among the public, social organizations and the state. The problem of child labour is mankind's belated recognition that children are important, and that care for each stage of a child's growth is imperative if a nation is to prosper. In the present study, an attempt has been made to find out the socio-economic factors which play a significant role in pushing children into the labour force and the repercussions of early employment. The study discloses that poverty, indebtedness, social customs and attitude of parents to education are the main reasons which force children to work as labourers.
