Cholinesterase is a serine hydrolase which catalyzes the hydrolysis of neurotransmitter acetylcholine into choline and acetic acid. According to cholinergic neurotransmission, cholinesterase inhibition would increase the levels of acetylcholine in the brain, thus improving cholinergic synapses in Alzheimer's disease. In the traditional medicine, numerous plants have been used to treat cognitive disorders. Natural products play an essential role in prevention and therapy of various neurodegenerative diseases and neuronal dysfunctions. The present book will focus on the in silico and in vitro cholinesterase inhibition of Moringa oleifera and Musa paradisiaca plant extracts.
