A scion of a famous Tory family, his sister is Rosa Monckton, who was a friend of Diana, Princess of Wales. He served as an advisor to Margaret Thatcher's policy unit in the 1980s and invented the Eternity puzzle at the end of the 1990s, as well as the Eternity II in 2007. More recently, he has attracted attention for his outspoken views on climate change.
