Introduction: Periodontal disease is the most prevalent pathology in human beings. Objective: To characterize chronic gingivitis in adolescents of the Basic Secondary School "José Martí", belonging to the Pablo Agüero Guedes Polyclinic, Caibarién, Villa Clara from May 2019 to May 2020.Methodology: A descriptive correlational cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population was the totality of enrolled in the course 2018-2019 and the sample 330adolescents.Results:Both sexes were represented with the same number of adolescents predominating the age of 12 years. There were a higher number of adolescents with gingivitis than healthy with moderate form predominating. The predominant risk factor was smoking and within the influential ones poor oral hygiene. Conclusions: Both sexes were represented with the same numberand the most represented age was 12 years old.
