The liver plays wide-ranging roles of the body. Chronic hepatitis is often perceived as a frustrating disease with inevitable progression to cirrhosis and thus a poor prognosis. Chronic hepatitis has been recognized in dogs of many breeds. Clinical signs of chronic hepatitis are in general non specific. The liver biopsy is required for definitive diagnosis. There are fewer published clinical trials in chronic hepatitis of canines. This study solves issue of diagnostic and therapeutic approach on canine chronic hepatitis. Incidence of chronic hepatitis in dogs was 0.25 per cent. Inappetance to anorexia, depression and vomition were the predominant signs. ALT, SAP, GGT, bilirubin and total bile acids were elevated in all types of chronic hepatitis. Serum albumin was low in chronic hepatitis, especially liver cirrhosis. After treatment with Curcumin / Alphatocopherol, liver enzymes, bilirubin and albumin normalized. By monitoring the biochemical assays Curcumin was found to be superior to Alphatocopherol.
