Treatment of chronic pancreatitis remains controversial. In the past, mortality and morbidity rates of surgery were high. Considering the fact that the majority of patients are young, conservative treatment bears considerable socio-economic costs. A variety of new interventional modalities, both endoscopic and surgical, are currently undergoing evaluation. The main thrust of this book is to encourage an interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of chronic pancreatitis, especially with regard to the timing and choice of modality. The most recent advances in conservative and interventional treatment - surgical and non-surgical - have been covered.
