Nietzsche believes that the church and the modern state are similar: they are monsters. Their monstrosity lies in the lie. Both institutions claim to make people happy. In reality, the design of modern statehood and the ecclesiastical institution is based on the manipulation of people for their own selfish ends. The Church and the modern State cleverly exploit the people and destroy in them any attempt to surpass themselves. Thus the people live miserably. For Nietzsche, the Church and the modern State have no legitimacy, they embody the death of the people. Hence Nietzsche's call to humanity to distrust these two institutions, to "not go to the churches if you want to breathe clean air". Our objective, through this book, has been to show that the Church and the modern State have the same destiny: the lie, the truth is not of their nature.
