This work is concerned with the question: how can a local Baptist church develop a work with the children and young people who attend it, in order to respond to the challenges that today's society presents in the contexts of these age groups? This research presents a theological and psychological analysis that underpins therapeutic practice in the church, describing biblical criteria and examples, as well as Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytical foundations. The Baptist congregation is analysed as a favourable space for promoting the healing of the whole being. To do this, action research methodology was used. Some children and young people were interviewed and spoke about their life stories and their conception of the image of God. The theoretical references used were bibliographies by the authors: Erik Erikson and Sigmund Freud; Gary R. Collins and H. Clinebell. The work is structured in three chapters.
