The role of IGFBP-5 in human breast cancer is very complex and is not completely understood. Although the apoptotic potential of IGFBP-5 has been studied extensively, there is still no consensus about whether IGFBP-5 induces apoptosis or promotes cell survival. We detected a higher level of serum IGFBP-5 in Non metastatic breast cancer patients rather than metastatic patients, this result was statistically significant. We also found higher VEGF expression in Metastatic breast cancer patients rather than Non metastatic patients, this result was statistically significant The P value was significant (0.001). We concluded that IGFBP-5 plays role in breast cancer as proapoptotic, antiangiogenic protein and can suppress angiogenesis and metastasis in breast cancer patients.
