Lack of permanent rivers in the region is another factor that has made it difficult for farmers to employ irrigation in their farming practices.

The author is a geography lecturer at Kenya Methodist University with considerable lecturing experience.She has a Bachelors degree in Education and a Masters degree in geography.She has undertaken a lot of research on food security.She is currently undertaking a Phd degree,her research concentrating on the effect of climate change on food security.
