Aging is associated with an increase in the prevalence of this disease, with the aim of describing the clinical epidemiological behavior of hypertension in older adults in clinic 3 of the Santo Domingo polyclinic in 2018, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 162 patients diagnosed as hypertensive selected according to criteria. The 57.4% of the sample belonged to the female sex, manifesting no significant differences between sexes for the suffering of hypertension, 59.3% were classified with isolated systolic hypertension that predominated, 50 for 30.9% were located between 65 and 69 years, 75.9% presented white skin color, in 88.7% sedentary lifestyle was found, in 86.4% family history of hypertension, 64.8% consumed alcohol and 51.2% smoked. In 86 patients, non-adherence to treatment was the predominant cause of forgetfulness in 56.9%, 40.7% had ischemic heart disease, which wasthe most frequent complication, and the presence of a family history of hypertension prevailed as a non-modifiable risk factor.
