A deeply personal debut collection, Clipped Wings & Other Things That Keep a Bird From Flying, traces the development of Haley's authentic poetic voice from 2017-2023. Michael James Haley is an artist like any other living in Brooklyn, New York. When they aren't creating, or reciting their poetry at various open mics throughout New York City, they are freelancing in the film industry, another creative outlet that helps pay their bills and ensure their ability to keep on creating. While writing great prose was, and continues to be, Michael's true ambition, poetry came in 2015 and caught them by surprise. In the 7 years since they have written over 100 poems inspired by the events in their own life, as well as the ongoing social conversations that are being held around them.
