JAN REID, who lives in Austin, has written for GQ, Esquire, and Men's Journal and for many years has been a contributing editor for Texas Monthly . His books include The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock and Deerinwater, a novel. He has won NEA and DobiePaisano fellowships and is a member of the Texas Institute of Letters.
