This volume contains a more extensive collection of epitaphs and inscriptions than any other work of the same kind relating to Scotland. Monteith's collection is reprinted in this book, as well as many original additions. Several literary men contributed to the work, including William Dobie of Beith, who had formed a curious collection of epitaphs and John Dunn of Paisley, for accurate copies of some inscription on the curious old stones in the Abbey burying ground. Great pains were taken to form a complete index of reference, which contains more than eight hundred names.
This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the original. Due to its age, it may contain imperfections such as marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages.
