The O-Pee-Chee Gum Company was formed in 1911 in London, Ontario, Canada. Between 1933 and 1995, the company produced hockey cards distributed almost exclusively throughout Canada. Changes in sports card licensing along with the sport card crash of the 1990s resulted in the company's bankruptcy in 1995. A year later Nestlé purchased the company licensing the card brand to Topps and today the brand is licensed to Upper Deck. Jointly produced with Topps, lower production and expanded sets made O-Pee-Chee the gold standard of 20th Century hockey card collectibles. Although this book is a price guide, its primary purpose is to give collectors a historical perspective on the sport of ice hockey and card collecting specific to each hockey season and the corresponding O-Pee-Chee set released that year (1933-1995) Designed to be read along with the cards one collects and invests in, this book not only allows one to gain a historical perspective and appreciation of the most valuable cards in each set but also some of the lesser-known players and cards. Authored by noted hockey historians George and Darril Fosty, brothers with over 35 years of experience in the sports card industry. The Fostys interviewed card resellers across North America for the guide to give industry insights along with more accurate pricing based on 'real world' factors.
