William C. Blackard, longtime resident of the county, is a top illustrator for civil service and area authors of note. Thomas Huckabee, a relative newcomer to the county, is the manager of Information Production Services for Westinghouse, Savannah River Company, with a long history in the fine arts and graphic communications fields. College Professor Gerald J. Smith, author of One of the Most Daring Men: The Life of William Tatum Wofford, Confederate General, is on the editorial board of the Georgia Historical Quarterly and is currently writing the history of Columbia County.
