It is an established fact that the marine fishing sub sector has been the hub of many economic activities in developed and developing countries by virtue of its special features of generating foreign income, creating employment and providing livelihood to millions of the people. In fact, the marine fishing industry has a major role to play in developing nations which are suffering from nutrition food security and high growth of population, particularly nations like India.The government of India has taken several measures for the promotion and smooth functioning of fishing industry and allocated crores of rupees for its development during several plan periods by realizing its importance. But to the dissatisfaction of many, including government agencies, intervention of various middlemen and lack of knowledge and information fish producers are facing lot of problems and sustaining poverty which has been influencing the fisher at both operational and promotional levels. Against thisbackdrop, the present study has been taken up to assess the socio-economic conditions and other market related problems faced by the fisher and the impact of various middlemen in market.
