Exudate gum from Combretum nigricans has been analysed for their physicochemical properties, chemical constituents (using GC-MS) and their application as corrosion inhibitor has been investigated. Physicochemical properties of the gums reveal that the gum has some potential for use in the food, polymer and pharmaceutical industries as well as intermediates for other chemicals. This gum has been found to be a good corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in solution of HCl.
