Autorenporträt
Hylke Speerstra (1936) is one of the most acclaimed authors to write in the Frisian language of the Northern Netherlands. He specializes in recording oral history. Speerstra was born on a farm and destined to become a farmer himself. However he switched gears in his twenties and became a journalist. He reached the position of managing editor of the Leeuwarder Courant, Friesland's prime daily newspaper. After early-retirement in 1996, he focused solely on writing books. Speerstra has written more than thirty books in Frisian and Dutch.
