The present module is developed in response to the acutely felt need for strong process oriented training module. This module is based on the Life skills concepts. Strategies used in this module promote participatory learning process to promote collective and activity based learning. Communicable diseases namely Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria are dealt in the present module to teach Epidemiology of infectious diseases. Pahchsheel principles are devised to govern the conduct of the session mainly emphasizing on tapping the existing knowledge with the participants and building on it by facilitating a interactive process. Three exercises called Thinking man's TV, Listing and Voting exercises are introduced to elicit existing knowledge and misconception about the infectious diseases. The "Mantra tool' is brought in to aid logical thinking and problem solving skills among the participants, to help them differentiate infectious disease from non communicable disease. Internalization of idea is one of the basic pre-requisites to transform the Knowledge into practice for adopting preventive measures. Simple games like Three legged stool game and Transfer the pen cap game are introduced.

Professor Dr. Rajan R Patil is a Sr. Epidemiologist and a founding faculty of School of Public Health at SRM University Chennai, India. Specialized in Epidemiology from CMC Vellore and got PhD from SRM University Chennai. Core area of research is infectious disease epidemiology. Has served as a consultant to United Nations agency like UNDP/WHO.
