Tourism industry in Kenya is a major economic sector. But like in many other developing countries,the industry is externally controlled and dominated by outsiders. This alienation of local communities has resulted in negative attitude towards tourism and in extension wildlife conservation. The author is Lecturer and PhD candidate in Tourism Management at Kenyatta University, Kenya. He holds a Master in Tourism Management and a Bachelor of Wildlife Management both from Moi University, Kenya. His main areas of interest are tourism policy, sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation.
