The presence of two or more diseases is not as simple as we see it, rather it worsens the prognosis of all the diseases that are present, leading to increase complications, making adherence to treatment difficult especially in the prison environment. It is therefore imperative to recognize the significance of these combination of diseases and as researchers, and clinicians to give specific attention to this group of individuals who are already prone to various diseases/psychosocial issues due to their incarceration.

Dr Armiya'u obtained her Fellowship in Psychiatry from both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West Africa College of Physicians. She has a Masters in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Investigation from University of Liverpool. She is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Researcher at Jos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.
